i have tried the saloman 4d gtx last year and then this year the 4d gtx2 and they both were sent back as they had split. i replaced the 4d gtx2 with these boots on recommendation for chris at surfmountain. the boots although not as good looking as the saloman, are equally as comfortable, rigid and althougha few grams heavier they certainly dont feel it. like all north face boots they are slightly higher soled so they give you an extra inch or so in height. overall very pleased after having had saloman boots for years. also well done surfmountain for great customer service
